To close the 2024-25 regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs sat their stars.

With Patrick Mahomes, Kareem Hunt and Travis Kelce watching from the sidelines to protect them from potential injury, the 2023 and ’24 Super Bowl champions — who went 15-2 this past year — essentially took a four-quarter kneel and let the Denver Broncos steamroll them 38-0.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, Andy Reid’s squad will pull a complete 360 and go full force when they take on the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium.

Mahomes is no longer on the Chiefs’ injury report and Isiah Pacheco, Chris Jones, Trent McDuffie, Chamarri Conner, Nikko Remigio and more have also been given the go-ahead.

“This has significant implications because, in a key move, Joe Thuney could return to his natural position as guard,” Bola VIP reports.

While the Super Bowl three-peat ready Chiefs come into this second round game well-rested and healthy after a bye week (and laid-back season-ender against the Broncos), C.J. Stroud and the 10-7 Texans enter this matchup hungry after an emphatic 32-12 Wild Card weekend win over the Chargers.

Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries and Nico Collins converted seven receptions into 122 yards and an TD of his own.

“We’re excited about the opportunity we have,” head coach DeMeco Ryans said. “We understand what’s in front of us. Great team, [Kansas City] has done a great job for the past few years of really dominating the league, being there at the end.”

If you’d like to see these two AFC heavyweights go head-to-head live at Arrowhead Stadium, last-minute tickets are still available.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on seats was $94 before fees on Vivid Seats.

100-level seats start at $173 before fees.

While these prices may seem expensive at first glance, compared to the games in Buffalo, Philadelphia and Detroit, they are by far the cheapest and might be the most affordable way to witness NFL playoff football in person this year.

About the Chiefs vs. Texans matchup

On Dec. 21, the Chiefs suited up against the Texans at Arrowhead.

Over the course of four quarters, Houston kept things tight — at the half, they were down 17-10 — but the Kansas City offense chugged along and Andy Reid’s club ended up winning 27-19.

Mahomes completed 28-of-41 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown while Hunt rushed for 55 yards and a TD of his own.

Perhaps even more devastating than the loss though was star receiver Tank Dell’s end zone injury. After catching a pass for a touchdown, he collided with teammate Jared Wayne and Kansas City’s McDuffie and damaged his meniscus, dislocated his knee and tore his ACL, MCL and LCL.

“Dell’s leg was placed in a vacuum splint, and he was taken to an area hospital, Pro Football Talk reported,” according to the New York Post.

The 25-year-old has since had surgery and claims it was a success. He will not be playing Saturday and is a question mark for the coming season as well.
