A former Wisconsin women’s basketball player made allegations against Badgers coach Marisa Moseley that she manipulated, threatened and created a toxic environment.
Tessa Towers, who spent her freshman and sophomore years at Wisconsin before transferring to Ball State, made the allegations in a video she posted to TikTok over the weekend.
Towers made a number of allegations against Moseley, including that the Wisconsin coach made her sign a release form to allow Mosely access to her therapy sessions and that the coach and staff threatened to kick her off the team multiple times.
“My coach gave me a choice between admitting myself to a mental hospital or getting kicked off the team!” Towers wrote in one slide on the TikTok post.
In another slide, Towers seemingly accused the coaching staff at Wisconsin of forcing her to hide any concerning thoughts from her therapist.
“My coach and staff said if I were to say anything remotely close to thoughts of su!c!de or de@+h to my therapist, I would be kicked off the team,” Towers wrote.
Towers also accused Moseley of excluding her from team trips and forcing her to get tested for autism.
She also alleged that she was “forced to leave the team mid season by my coach and the staff.”
“I would leave my [coach’s] office bawling my eyes out every time,” she wrote in another slide.
Towers took a leave of absence in December 2022, which was in the middle of her freshman season with Wisconsin.
The University of Wisconsin acknowledged it was looking into the allegations in a statement to The Star Press.
“We are aware of comments shared online by former Badger student-athlete Tessa Towers and will be looking into this matter,” they said. “We care deeply about the physical and mental well-being of all of the student-athletes on our teams, during and after their time on campus. While we would like to share additional context around Tessa’s comments, federal privacy laws prohibit us from publicly addressing the health-related claims made on Tessa’s social media account.”
Additionally, several former Badgers players showed support for Towers in comments on the post, with the likes of Krystyna Ellew, Tessa Grady, Mary Ferrito, Imbie Jones, Sacia Vanderpool and Sydney Hilliard all seeming to back up Towers.
Towers appeared in four total games for the Badgers and averaged 2.3 minutes.
She’s since played in 12 games for Ball State and is averaging 3.1 points per game.
