Cowboys defensive lineman Mazi Smith missed the team’s preseason game against the Raiders over the weekend after he was reportedly hospitalized following an adverse reaction triggered by peanut allergies.

The reaction occurred on the team bus, according to a report from Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Smith “feels much better and will practice today,” Hill added in a post on X on Monday.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy addressed the situation during media availability.

“He’s doing much better today than he was yesterday,” McCarthy said of Smith.

“He’s progressing very well.”

Asked if it was a “frightening situation”, McCarthy said, “Frankly, everybody was on the bus. And I was passing him as he was coming off the bus and I was getting on. But yeah, those things are always serious when you have an allergic reaction like that.”

The Cowboys selected Smith 26th overall in the first round last year after he starred at Michigan.

He appeared in all 17 of the team’s regular season games, starting three.

Smith made news earlier this year when a storage locker apparently belonging to him was auctioned off due to non-payment, and the buyer discovered about $20,000 worth of limited-edition sneakers and cleats that had been produced by Nike exclusively for Michigan players.
