The Cowboys’ confidence in Cooper Rush seemed to be short-lived.
Rush found himself watching from the sidelines with 2:56 left in the third quarter and didn’t come back into the game in the Cowboys’ 34-6 loss to the Eagles.
Nothing seemed to be going Dallas’ way on Sunday against their divisional rival and Rush had gone 13-for-23 through the air for just 45 yards and fumbled twice before head coach Mike McCarthy turned to Trey Lance.
Lance finished the game completing four passes for 21 yards and throwing one interception in the lopsided loss.
The effort isn’t exactly what the Cowboys had hoped to see with starter Dak Prescott staring down the likelihood of season-ending surgery after suffering an injury the previous week.
The Cowboys had spoken glowingly about Rush in the days leading up to the Week 10 matchup.
“He’s unflappable,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer told reporters, per ESPN. “I mean he’s very calm. It’s hard to tell whether he’s playing great, we’re playing great. I think that’s a sign of a really, really good quarterback. He doesn’t give highs and lows. He’s like these professional golfers that you see and you don’t know if shot 8 under or 8 over. I think that speaks to his experience.”
But the Eagles defense seemed to be too much of a hump to get over for Rush or the Cowboys offense.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter had previously reported that Prescott would have surgery that would end his 2024 season in order to fix a partially torn hamstring, however, he was going to have one more specialist take a look at it.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday morning that Prescott had been “hoping to avoid surgery,” but he has already received several opinions and “none have been good.”
“My understanding, this is something I reported with Tom Pelissero yesterday, is that the likely option for Dak Prescott is surgery and this would, of course, knock him out for the season,” Rapoport said. “A firm and final answer coming tomorrow, but it does not look great for Dak Prescott.”
The Cowboys face the Texans on “Monday Night Football” in Week 11.
