Montreal Canadiens rookie winger Emil Heineman was struck by a car as a pedestrian Monday night in Utah and will miss three to four weeks with an injury he sustained in the accident.

The team said the 23-year-old Swede had an “upper-body injury,” while his agent, Marcus Isaksson, told Swedish outlet Aftonbladet that Heineman suffered a wrist injury.

Montreal was in Salt Lake City on Monday ahead of its game against the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday night.

Heineman is in his first full NHL season after a four-game cameo with the Canadiens last season.

He has 17 points (10 goals, seven assists) in 41 games this season, including three power-play goals. He has the third-most goals and seventh-most points among rookies.

Heineman recently had an eight-game stretch from Dec, 17 to Jan. 3 in which he had four goals and four assists.

Originally selected by the Panthers in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Heineman’s rights were traded to the Flames in 2021 in the Sam Bennett deal while he was still playing for Leksands in the Swedish Hockey League.

His rights were then traded to the Canadiens in 2022, and he spent most of last season playing for Montreal’s AHL affiliate in Laval.

The Canadiens, now in their fourth season with ex-Ranger Martin St. Louis behind the bench, entered Tuesday with 44 points in 42 games, two points behind the Blue Jackets for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
