Will Compton and Taylor Lewan shared the details behind their decision to leave Barstool Sports.

The hosts of the popular “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast said on Tuesday’s show that their goal was to remain with Barstool and were willing to give a “hometown discount” — just not one this big.

Compton said that they would have stayed if Dave Portnoy could have gotten within 10-20 percent of their new offer, however the Barstool founder was more like 40 percent short.

Lewan and Compton, both former NFL players, likened it to leaving the team that drafted you.

“You hate when you have to move on from them,” Compton said. “Because you want that team that bet on your from the beginning, were loyal to you, that bet you on the whole time and helped and grow build you … it’s tough to get away from that.”

Compton and Lewan said they received an offer from a sponsor that would allow them to work independently going forward.

The pair already owned the IP to their show and have their own group of employees that work behind the scenes and who will be part of their new venture.

“We are going independent,” Compton said. “We’ll be exclusive with sponsors, but not with a network … We can collab with whoever we want to, we have creative control, which is exactly what ‘Bussin’ with the Boys’ wanted to be from the beginning … It’s awesome.”

Portnoy said last week that he worked hard to try and keep Compton and Lewan.

“It sucks, I told Bussin’ I made what I think was my most aggressive move to keep them,” Portnoy said on “The Unnamed Show,” per Awful Announcing.

“But this is the world that we’re in, really, and we’ve been in. Whether it’s Jenna Marbles, (Alex) Cooper, (Pat) McAfee, them, Caleb (Pressley), there’s always more value for a company taking talent than already here. But they’re like (Jared) Carrabis times a million. They got an offer that was so big, it’s like I can’t [match].”

The possibility of Compton and Lewan leaving first came up during the “Surviving Barstool” show, which aired over the past month.

The reality game — similar to the long-running CBS show, except with Barstool employees — had a $250,000 prize to the winner.

Portnoy and Dan “Big Cat” Katz prioritized eliminating Lewan and Compton because they did not want them winning a big pile of cash while they were likely headed out the door.

Still, Lewan called the lucrative decision “bittersweet” and Compton expressed how much loyalty they both had to the website.

“It was tough, we took a couple of days … I am losing sleep over it. You can’t say no to this opportunity because it’s an awesome opportunity,” Compton said.
