Douglas Coleman III was stretchered off the field during the Bears preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

The injury occurred when Coleman went for a tackle on Chiefs wide receiver Cornell Powell in the early part of the third quarter and left the Bears defender down on the field for several moments where he was not moving.

The seriousness of the situation quickly sunk in for both teams as medical staff from the Bears tended to Coleman while players from both teams took a knee on the field.

Coleman was taken off the field on a stretcher and was cheered by the Chiefs fans in attendance as he was put on the cart.

After the game, Matt Eberflus told reporters that Coleman has movement in his limbs and is at the hospital but did not provide any further update.

He had signed a futures contract with Chicago in January and was hoping to stick on the roast out of training camp.

Coleman had spent the last two seasons playing in the Canadian Football League for the Ottawa Ottawa Redblack, which included an impressive campaign last season when he put up 60 tackles, four sacks and three interceptions.

He also had two touchdowns to his name during the 2023 CFL season.

Coleman had recorded two tackles in last week’s preseason contest against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 26-year-old played his college football at Texas Tech and was originally signed by the Broncos as an undrafted free agent.

Coleman was one of several injuries the Bears suffered on Thursday night in Kansas City.

Offensive tackle Larry Borom was carted off the field after suffering a left leg injury on the second Chicago drive of the game, and wide receiver Nsimba Webster also had to be carted off the field in the second quarter of the game.

The Bears open their season on Sept. 8 against the Titans.
