While Major League Baseball teams were wheeling and dealing before Tuesday’s trade deadline, Brandon Nimmo and his wife Chelsea may have announced the biggest acquisition of the day.

The couple announced in a post on social media that they would be welcoming their first child into the world in December.

“The sweetest birthday gift,” Chelsea wrote in the post on Instagram before the Mets’ 2-0 win. “Our little blessing due this December.”

The post on Instagram included a picture of Brandon and Chelsea standing side by side while the couple holds a mini No. 9 Nimmo jersey.

Included in the caption are the hashtags “#babynimmo” and “#babygirl,” appearing to indicate that the two are having a daughter.

The couple got engaged in 2015 and tied the knot in 2017.

While their romance has remained under wraps, Nimmo, 31, has posted plenty of photos of the couple over their time together on social media.

The most recent post of the pair came back in February when the Mets outfielder shared a post by Chelsea of the two down in Port St. Lucie, Florida during spring training.

“Had such a great night hanging out and meeting all the new members of our Mets family,” the caption read.

Nimmo has been a member of the Mets organization since he was selected 13th overall in 2011, making his MLB debut in 2016.

The outfielder set a new career high on Tuesday’s win over the Twins when he stole his 10th base of the season and is now 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts in 2024.

Nimmo also earned praise from former Mets captain David Wright, who was on hand for the game.

David Wright spoke with @SteveGelbs on how Brandon Nimmo has evolved as a player, leader & teammate:”He provides that role model. With my kids, I’ll say ‘you see Brandon Nimmo?’ That’s the way you should play the game and that’s the way you should go about your business” pic.twitter.com/dh75xu5fX5— SNY Mets (@SNY_Mets) July 31, 2024

“He’s, if not the leader, one of the leaders in that clubhouse,” Wright told SNY. “It’s really fun to see how he’s evolved as a player, but also as a leader and a teammate. I can’t say enough good things about Brandon. He’s one of my favorite players that I played with, one of my favorite players now to watch and I think that he provides that role model.

“With my kids…I’ll say ‘You see Brandon Nimmo?’ That’s the way you should play the game and that’s the way you should go about your business.’”

Nimmo finished Tuesday’s game with a hit, walk and a run scored.
